CEO Sleepout joins forces with Warwick Business School at WBS The Shard to host the very first Leaders With Purpose event.
Hosted by Dr Maja Korica, the invitation-only event was fully subscribed by business leaders and WBS Alumni working in London, who came to be inspired by leaders who are creating lasting social impact through some exciting business initiatives. We asked “what does it mean to be a leader with purpose?” and explored why change has to come through human-centred leadership.
The panel consisted of John Sage, who manages the corporate responsibility strategy and programme for Tideway, the company building London’s ‘super sewer’ – the enormous infrastructure project that will allow for a clean and thriving river Thames. The work Tideway are doing across the board to create a lasting legacy for London using the waterways to connect and strengthen communities set the bar. Across the board, social value is being created.
Also speaking was Jason Allen-Lane, HR Lead for global brand Outreach. Jason talked about how teams can be motivated to get involved in causes, and how this in turn encourages leadership to back community initiatives in a virtuous circle. Jason argued for a very human-centred approach.
Henrik Muehle, Managing Director of Flemings Mayfair, has inequality literally on his doorstep. And is passionate about educating his team when it comes compassion. Every Friday Henrik oversees the distribution of over 200 hot meals to people in need at Charing Cross – a need that has only grown.
Henrietta MacEwen, Head of Driving for Change, part of the Change Please Foundation, spoke of the importance of listening to someone, and really hearing and bearing witness to their story. It can mean the world to someone who is often ignored by passers-by, locked out of society. Driving For Change operates London Buses that visit people who are rough sleeping and offers services such as dental checks and support in opening bank accounts.
And Kerri Douglas, Author, Speaker and Business Person, and CEO Sleepout’s Lived Experience Ambassador. Kerri, who has overcome living on the streets of Westminster between the ages of 13-24, spoke from the heart about what it means to be noticed, talked to, and the support required to overcome homelessness.
The panellists were brought together by Bianca Robinson, CEO of the CEO Sleepout.
Goodie bags were provided for each attendee by Scentered, wellbeing balms to sooth and support focus and sleep. Scentered have kindly offered to support CEO Sleepout Charity with a donation of 30% of the profits or any orders that come through the charitable connection.
