I’m a graphic designer and strategist with over 40 years’ experience. I’m Creative Director and Founder of Milton Keynes based business transformation specialists, Yellowyoyo, which was established in 1998.
What are some of your driving values?
Authenticity: Living authentically helps me build trust and meaningful relationships. Compassion: I prioritise kindness, care, empathy and being understanding of people's situations. I’ve witnessed the power of compassion to uplift and support, even in difficult circumstances. Collaboration: I believe that by working together we achieve incredible things.
You’ve always been great at giving back, why is it important to you?
I’m privileged to have had a stable, supported start in life, but I’m very aware that others have a very different story to tell. It’s important to me to give back and help make a difference where I can.
Which causes are closest to your heart / one thing about society in the UK that you wish you could change?
Domestic abuse in all its forms. I find it impossible to comprehend why one human being would wish to damage another, how controlling and coercive people can be. And yet still, in 2023, we hear constantly of such inhumane behaviours. Something tangible has to happen surely, to change this world.
How did you get involved in the CEO Sleepout?
I heard about the event via a friend who’s an Ambassador – Jo Carter. So I decided to join up with others from my local business community and take part!
What other ways do you "give back" or work to strengthen communities you work within?
Connecting people and collaborating is something I love to do and I’m always keen to find ways to bring visibility to local charities. I volunteer in Milton Keynes where I can, most recently for the city’s International Festival.
Name one thing you'd like people to know about your life and work:
At the heart of my business is the genuine intention to help people to be the best they can be, and that’s very much a personal driver for me too.
How might you see business playing a part in creating a fairer society here in the UK?
By providing good jobs with fair wages and authentically prioritising diversity, equity and inclusion. Also by sourcing ethically, reducing their environmental impact and actively recognising their social responsibility. So many ways!
Why is it important that those in business lead with purpose?
I think it’s vital, now more than ever, for business leaders to be guided by a defining purpose. It’s critical to earning respect, driving innovation, building resilience, growth and reputation... And certainly when it comes to attracting, inspiring and retaining a Gen Z, Y and in the future Gen Alpha workforce.
