I've been in management since the age of 18. Running hospitality businesses for 15 years then made the leap into digital marketing after realising I had enough of hospitality after the COVID pandemic!
What are some of your driving values?
Simple - I want to support Portsmouth in becoming the best city to live, work and learn. What drives me is making Portsmouth a better place in any way I can.
You’ve always been great at giving back, why is it important to you?
I feel anyone who can look at their life and say "you know, I've got it pretty good" should be able to get their hands dirty and help others. There will always be someone out there who needs a helping hand and the power of being able to support an individual or charity is a privilege I'm proud to say I have.
Which causes are closest to your heart / one thing about society in the UK that you wish you could change?
Portsmouth is one of the most deprived cities in the UK but we are some incredible organisations here fighting injustices on so many levels. What infuriates me most is how poorly how veterans are "looked after" once their service is completed. 14% of the homeless community in Portsmouth are veterans...
How did you get involved in the CEO Sleepout?
I attended a Shaping Portsmouth conference in 2023 and soon as I heard about it I just knew I had to signed up and raise as much as I could!
What other ways do you "give back" or work to strengthen communities you work within?
I'm a volunteer trustee for children's charity - The Literacy Hubs. We support literacy levels of primary school children as Portsmouth is in the top 10% of the lowest literacy levels in the country! I'm also very proudly volunteer programme lead of the Shaping Portsmouth - Portsmouth Ambassadors programme. I also actively work with dozens of charities in Portsmouth every single year.
Name one thing you'd like people to know about your life and work:
If I can help, I will. If can't, I will always find you someone who can!
How might you see business playing a part in creating a fairer society here in the UK?
Business lead from the front, naturally leaders have resilience which society needs to help drive forward. Businesses should be able to lead the charge with this.
Why is it important that those in business lead with purpose?
Business leaders are in a privileged position to be able to enforce change and implement decisions to make impact. If we join forces we can become even stronger and lead positive change quicker.
