Spark Community Space – Creating a Place to Belong
Feeling left behind doesn’t always have a clear cause. It can come from illness, job loss, lack of opportunity, or simply a sense of being overlooked.
Through the work of SPARK Community Space, people in that position are offered something simple but powerful a place where they are welcomed without judgement.
Across Portsmouth, individuals arrive at different points in their lives. Some are rebuilding after difficult experiences. Others are searching for connection, purpose or a way to regain confidence. What they find is a space where they can take those first steps at their own pace.
Support often begins with small, human moments: a conversation over a cup of tea, a chance to be heard, or the opportunity to be part of something again. From there, people are able to build skills, take part in training, or get involved in volunteering, gradually reconnecting with a sense of value and belonging.
There is no single pathway back to stability. Each person’s experience is different, and progress can take time. What matters is having a space that meets people where they are and allows them to move forward without pressure or judgement.
This is not a one-size-fits-all approach. It is support built around community recognising that connection, trust and purpose are often the starting points for change.
SPARK Community Space works alongside partners across the city, helping to create a network of support that reflects the complexity of people’s lives.
This is not a quick fix. But through this work, people who have felt overlooked are given the chance to rebuild confidence, rediscover their value and find a place where they belong.
