I’ve been working in this industry for a long time now, but have been with ITS for nearly 10 years, and in the last 4 years, have been part of the Senior Leadership Team.
What are some of your driving values?
Respect and Kindness and an unwavering belief in the power and responsibility of community. We are interwoven, bound together by the places we live, the experiences we share, and the futures we dream.
I believe in the ripple effect. Small acts can create monumental changes. By supporting initiatives like the CEO Sleepout, not only are we addressing the immediate needs of those experiencing homelessness, but we are also sowing seeds of hope, compassion, and understanding in society.
You’ve always been great at giving back, why is it important to you?
For me, giving back goes beyond a mere gesture; it's deeply woven into who I am. Having faced my own hardships, I'm acutely aware of the challenges life can throw. Despite the position one might attain, it's vital to remember our roots and those who journey alongside us.
Which causes are closest to your heart / one thing about society in the UK that you wish you could change?
The issue of homelessness is incredibly close to my heart. It's a stark reminder of the disparities in our society and represents the intersection of many other issues – from mental health to economic inequality. Every individual enduring a night on the streets is a poignant symbol of the work we still have ahead of us as a society.
In addition to homelessness, mental health is a cause I try to support, after my first husband died from Suicide. Mental well-being is foundational to every aspect of our lives, yet it's often overlooked or stigmatised. I'm passionate about supporting individuals so they can seek help without judgement and where mental health is as prioritised as physical health.
The causes I support resonate with a single theme for me: building a compassionate, inclusive, and sustainable world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
How did you get involved in the CEO Sleepout?
I had never heard of the CEO Sleepout until I moved to Middlesbrough, and my now husband, offered me a night under the stars and the rest is history!!
What other ways do you "give back" or work to strengthen communities you work within?
Since moving to Middlesbrough, I have started to forge relationships with a number of charities. Each collaboration has not only been an avenue to give back but also a learning experience that has enriched my understanding of the unique challenges and strengths of our community, such as Walking with the Wounded.
Name one thing you'd like people to know about your life and work:
If there's one thing I'd like people to know about my life and work, it's that the boundaries between the two are incredibly fluid. My professional pursuits and personal passions are all interwoven, driven by a singular vision: to create a world where compassion takes centre stage and every individual has the opportunity to flourish. Each decision I make, project I undertake, and cause I champion is fuelled by this vision.
How might you see business playing a part in creating a fairer society here in the UK?
Businesses in the UK have a pivotal role in shaping a fairer society. By championing inclusive employment, prioritising mentorship programs, and promoting ethical sourcing practices, they pave the way for community empowerment and global responsibility. It's crucial for businesses to nurture transparent relationships, invest directly in their communities, and collaborate with local charities to amplify societal impact.
Why is it important that those in business lead with purpose?
Leading with purpose in business is paramount because it transcends mere profit-driven goals, it anchors a businesses endeavours in a meaningful impact and long-term vision. A purpose-led business approach fosters genuine connections with customers, motivates employees, and cultivates a resilient brand identity.
