The Forward Trust: Helping People Break the Cycles of Addiction,
Homelessness and Crime
The Forward Trust is the UK’s leading addiction recovery charity, helping people
recover from addiction, leave behind crime, and rebuild their lives with family, friends,
jobs, homes and a sense of belonging. Every year, we support thousands of people
across England and Wales through services in prisons, communities and residential
recovery settings.
Homelessness rarely happens in isolation. For many of the people supported by The
Forward Trust, it is linked to addiction, poor mental health, trauma, unemployment,
and involvement with the criminal justice system. These challenges can make it
incredibly difficult to find stability and move forward.
Through our work, we see the urgent need for housing support. One in four people
accessing our community services are homeless or insecurely housed, while around
half of people leaving prison face housing insecurity. Without a safe place to live, the
risk of relapse, reoffending and long-term disadvantage increases significantly.
That’s why we provide safe accommodation alongside practical, personalised
support. Our housing programmes help people secure a home, develop independent
living skills, rebuild confidence and create the stability needed for lasting recovery.
Providing more than a place to stay, we help them build the foundations for lasting
recovery, independence and a better future.
In addition to critical funding, CEO Sleepout provides an opportunity to engage
business leaders with our mission. It enables us to build relationships with
organisations and individuals who can champion recovery, reduce stigma, create
employment opportunities, and support people to move forward from addiction,
homelessness and crime.
Together, we can demonstrate that everyone deserves the opportunity to rebuild their
life with a safe home, meaningful relationships and a sense of purpose.
