Through the work of half the story and  Grace Enterprises, individuals facing long-term unemployment are given the chance to rebuild not just their finances, but their confidence and independence.

Across Nottingham and beyond, people are supported into roles that offer more than short-term fixes. Real Living Wage jobs, combined with ongoing mentoring and support, create space for people to regain control over their lives in a way that feels sustainable.

As one employee described, there is a clear difference between receiving help and being able to take that next step independently. Having the opportunity to earn, contribute and grow allows people to move away from crisis support and begin shaping their own future.

Opportunities are created through a network of social enterprises, from commercial cleaning and events to food production. Each one provides practical work experience alongside the kind of support that helps people stay in employment and continue progressing.

The challenges people face aren’t always visible. Long-term unemployment can be shaped by a combination of circumstances from financial hardship to lack of opportunity or confidence. Moving forward takes time, consistency and the right environment.
