I’ve worked in the travel/aviation sector from leaving school, most recently as Account Manager for Emirates Airline where I’m just about to celebrate my 10th anniversary!
What are some of your driving values?
Contributing to the greater good and helping others whenever I can. I also love a challenge, hence leaving my comfort zone to take part in my first Sleepout many moons ago. I’m also passionate about building connections, my network, as together we have a much louder voice and are so much stronger.
You’ve always been great at giving back, why is it important to you?
If I can help, I want to, it’s a huge part of my character and comes naturally. Even doing something small can make the hugest difference where it’s needed. Kindness, a smile, words of encouragement or advice, generosity in time – these things don’t cost a thing, and such little things can literally change lives.
Which causes are closest to your heart / one thing about society in the UK that you wish you could change?
Homelessness, poverty, food poverty simply should not be a thing in this century. The current cost of living crisis is adding to this exorbitantly, its utterly heartbreaking.
How did you get involved in the CEO Sleepout?
I was asked to take part in the 2nd Sleepout at Middlesbrough by some good friends of mine. From the moment the sun started to rise over the stands at the Riverside stadium, and I climbed out of my sleeping bag, cold, damp, and tired, my life changed forever. I understood, and I truly wanted to carry on making a difference wherever I could.
What other ways do you "give back" or work to strengthen communities you work within?
I give regularly to my local food bank, and as a family we also donate household items, clothes, shoes etc to Changing Lives at least twice a year. It’s so easy to help and make a difference, it doesn’t always need to be a monetary contribution.
Name one thing you'd like people to know about your life and work:
As well as loving my work at Emirates, I’m also an avid photographer, checkout www.mermaidsquad.co.uk - In the pandemic I was furloughed for 18 months, and the beach helped me to retain my sanity. Mermaid Squad was an idea born from that time and I adore how I can make dreams come true.
How might you see business playing a part in creating a fairer society here in the UK?
As business leaders we have such a great platform to spread or keep reiterating our pleas for help, along with sharing event info and encouraging others to step out of their comfort zone and do something great, and something which they will be extremely proud of. Our reach is immense, leveraging our networks and platforms, LinkedIn for example, which is the perfect stage. We have big voices and have large audiences to listen.
Why is it important that those in business lead with purpose?
Change starts with us – we can truly be the change this country needs. We can passionately and energetically engage others, focusing on the need to keep Homelessness and Poverty at the forefront of everyone’s minds. We can inspire and motivate others spreading a Good Samaritan culture, one which is kind and empathetic and one which craves to help.
By participating in a CEO Sleepout event, you’ll gain insight into the big issues surrounding homelessness and what – as business leader – you have the power to change. We hope you’ll be moved to create a positive social impact in your business, adding value that strengthens communities and society as a whole.
