How our work makes a difference:
Since 1972, The Shrewsbury Ark has been supporting people in Shropshire who experience homelessness by providing:
Warmth and safety
Friendship and kindness
Food
Access to medical care, mental health support and counselling services
Personal and laundry washing facilities
Practical support to access wider services such as housing and addiction recovery
Access to a phone and IT equipment
Well-being activities including arts, music and crafts
No two days are ever the same at The Shrewsbury Ark; our service ranges from supporting clients experiencing a mental health crisis; helping someone flee domestic violence; supporting ex-service personnel or prison leavers; to finding a site for an 86-year-old to park their caravan home.
Our achievements in 2024:
7192 individual visits to our drop-in day centre
316 unique clients of which 237 were new
159 clients accessed our on-site health services: GP; Hepatitis C Clinic and Dentist
16 clients referred for specialist 121 counselling
42 clients in accommodation received food parcels
Individuals referred to our day centre are provided with personalised support to improve their lives as well as access to our purpose-built medical room, therapy room, arts area, IT area, library and outdoor space. Allocated support workers help individuals to create a bespoke action plan, tailored to their personal needs and a suitable time frame.
The Ark stands in a strong position to address homelessness in our community and our improved facilities and services are starting to make a positive impact. The Ark is a haven where everyone feels not just sheltered, but genuinely cared for, fostering a sense of security that inspires hope for a brighter future.
