Home-Start Portsmouth supports vulnerable parents to build a safe, nurturing and stimulating family life to ensure that their children develop and thrive.
We have been embedded in the local area for 30 years, where our mix of professional staff and highly trained community volunteers, work with families to help them cope with the multiple and complex challenges they face.
Portsmouth falls into the top 10% of most deprived areas in the country. The need in our catchment is high. Our families face many difficulties and as a result, children suffer and can tend to be very isolated even within their own community, starting life with so many disadvantages, which can be almost impossible to improve without long term, external support.
The early years make the biggest difference to a child’s future, specifically in the first 1001 days of a child’s life. Home-Start Portsmouth provides support in these early years through our trained home visiting volunteers, stay and play groups, school readiness programmes, parenting support groups, and within the family hubs as an initial face-to-face contact.
Our compassionate, child-centred family support empowers Portsmouth families to thrive, leading to the best outcomes for a child’s future.
