CORE FOUNDATIONS
Core Foundations was established to provide a long-term solution to homelessness in
County Durham and Hexham, recognising that it stems from various forms of poverty:
Poverty of Resources
Poverty of Relationships
Poverty of Identity
As a Christian faith-led charity, Core Foundations emphasises that the poverty of
relationships is just as critical as the poverty of resources. Our mission is to support
individuals to offer not only houses, but friendship, support and guidance too. It aims to
inspire hope, empower individuals, and help them lead independent and fulfilling lives.
Set up last summer by business consultant Philip Crawford and wife Caroline Crawford,
managing director of Moody Logistics and Storage, Core Foundations is a franchisee of
Christian homeless charity ‘Hope into Action’. Philip was inspired to set up the spin-off
charity after working as a consultant for Hope into Action for 12 months.
The charity is off to an impressive start, having already secured its first house from leading
social housing provider Karbon Homes in Consett, County Durham, where tenants moved in
this July. The charity’s early success can be attributed in part to the momentum gained from
a successful Spring Ball held at the Grand Hotel in Gosforth Park, which significantly raised
its profile and generated £29,000 for the initiative through ticket sales, sponsorship, and an
auction on the night. Core Foundations has also secured its second home in Hexham,
thanks to the generous support of the Vardy Foundation, and it is expected to be ready by
October. Plans are also underway to acquire a third home in Hexham, with hopes of
completing the purchase by early 2025.
Core Foundations will be providing supported living for up to two years for tenants in the
North East area through the support of an Empowerment Worker and members of local
churches. After two years, the charity hopes that tenants will have gained enough support
through learning domestic, career and personal skills to be able to live independently.
How the CEO Sleepout will help Core Foundations.
The CEO Sleepout initiative presents a fantastic opportunity for Core Foundations to
establish itself as a new charity, raising awareness and sparking conversations about the
significant homelessness crisis in the North East. By participating in this event, Core
Foundations can amplify its mission, engage with the wider community, and attract vital
support for its cause, through investors for houses, local church support and finding tenants
for its homes.
Caroline, the Managing Director of Moody Logistics and Storage, aims to involve customers
and suppliers, broadening the initiative’s reach and impact. This collaboration not only
enhances fundraising efforts but also fosters a network of advocates dedicated to supporting
Core Foundations’ work, helping the charity make a lasting difference in the fight and
understanding against homelessness.
