The BillyChip was created by Billy Abernethy- Hope, a 20-year-old ambulance driver Bristol. Billy always felt sad about the lack of support and direct donations for the homeless community and was determined to find a way to help. Tragically in March 2018, whilst travelling in Thailand, Billy died in a motorbike accident so never got to see the BillyChip in action. Billy’s sister Meg and dad Jon brought his idea to life and are now changing the homeless scene.
BillyChip plans to continue to grow its number of outlets through independent retail businesses which sell coffee and snacks, our focus as a business is to attract more diverse outlets to the scheme like takeaways, convenience stores and charity shops.Research tells us over 2 billion takeaway coffees are bought every year in the UK. If we could be accessible to the public in a high percentage of those outlets and sold a BillyChip to just
1% of those transactions, we would be able to feed 18,000 people a day and provide £20 million a year in grants to homeless organisations and charities in the UK.
BillyChip has a very strong growth plan with good connections to deliver our goal within the next 5 years to be operational outside of the UK. We are currently working with other charitable organisations in the USA and Australia with plans to launch the scheme in the next three years through global retail franchise operators.
